The two wee beasties above finally got to have a run around last weekend, when i met up with my son at out local gaming group’s All Day Saturday event. Sadly, it was for ToW rather than KoW, so my Mantic Goblins didn’t get a run out. However, my old Skull Pass gobboes did.
With a nod of respect to that old box set, i dusted off my Night Goblins, made what necessary repairs i could, and fielded a thousand point battle to wrangle with the new Old World rules. Sadly, my son wasn’t playing Dwarfs, but Chaos Mauraders insstead,. We had a ton of fun, and for both of us, it was great to roll a few dice , whatever the ruleset.
Luckily, I have enough gobboes to do dedicated army lists for both rule sets with easse. In fact, I’m just about to do a trial battle of the same rules with 2000 points of mainly Savage Orcs vs Goblins
(Not a Black Orc in sight They were left back in the changing room while everyone else gets a game.)
But why, you might ask, am I posting this here?
My Goblin Spider Riders got some love last weekend, and the Forest Goblin king too, (although the old metal model was given to me without his Giant Spider steed. Also, I’ve been very good recently and not bought a model since… eons.
Nope, my bad. I did buy some raven winged dudes for my Northern Alliance, but it feeeels like forever.
So i was hankering after something new to paint. I’d considered the GW Orc set despite my reticence to buy from GW. Next, I considered adding to my Savage Orc army, with some Beach Boyz themed nekkid Orruks … very tempting that, with dudes on surf boards and the two big Spear guys carrying a canoe . Itwould be a great diorama for sure.
I do love a good water features diorama .
Then on Thursday, an idea hit me. Why not go mad and buy a model or unit that has been long on my wish list. I checked what was in the Irish stores online In the end, I found what I wanted, and it was on sale 25% off, with only 19 hours left at the sale price, so i bought it…
An Aracknarok, the one with the spidersilk Lobba, (although I think there are multiple options available in the box.
My credit card positively sparked with enthusiasm, as I remembered that i’d always wanted to do a Forest Goblin army. “It wasn’t me, Boss!” my card said as I bought 50 (2 boxes of 25 each) Forest goblins to keep him company.
That would make a great start to an army. My head whirred with enthusiasm last night as I plotted adding a dense forest to my terrain trees, that could slip onto one side of a battlefield as if the Forest Goblins were defending their sacred trees, )
“Yes! I’m looking at ye, Elf! Ya ain’t the only ones dat doesnee want ta live in a treeless wurld! Ya don’t own the rights to tree huggin’!!” “Yikes, there’s more of them. Whirrrd they cum from!? Quick lads, i rub! Inta dem trees afore dey can get dem bows strung!”
It would have been very interesting to give the naked goblins ( Shieldwolf Miniatures ) frenzy, so they’d be like mini Savage Orcs, but I fear that isn’t possible in either Kow or ToW…Granted, Frenzy would be more brutal but kunnin, rather than Kunnin but Brutal. Goblins weren;t build for Brutal, but Kunnin, Now ya talking!
I’d have liked to give the wee guys the option of poisoned Blowguns Range 12" rather than short bows, (or perhaps Both, one or the other depending on unit .There isn’t even the Spider banner anymore, that could grant poison attacks to a unit.
Is it too much to ask for a scout ability so that sneaky Goblins can be ‘dedd sneeky!’ and pop up during the battle with cunning, (in either ruleset)
Still… I’m looking forward to the new models arriving and getting stuck in to my latest army, or my latest Goblin Army, (Goblin’s version 3) and giving Forest Goblins some Love.
